This is a custom project an Infantryman and Humvee turret gunner came to us with a while back. He wanted a setup with the following criteria:
1) Be able to drop and reattach his load quickly to make it easier getting in and out of a turret
2) The load be carried safely, without excess straps to snag on things
3) Load-bearing buckles strong enough to handle more than a full combat load and then some
4) 8 rows of MOLLE
5) 2 layers of 1000D Cordura
6) Has to be compatible with the current US Army issue IBA, and the new body armor, the IOTV,
7) Be able to be removed fast, to quickly access the IOTV's quick release.
We also built this around the same size IBA vest that he wears (medium), just so I made sure to get everything sized properly. This original idea has spawned an evolving design to make a bib/rack that is safely compatible with the IOTV, which is sadly short of MOLLE loops in useful places.
